Broad Horizons welcomes Dorothy Chansky
as its newest board member and as its literary manager. Dorothy
brings a wealth of experience as an actress, writer, producer, critic,
journalist, historian, and professor of theatre. We look forward
to our collaboration with her. Her bio appears below:
Dorothy Chansky began her career as an actress. After seven years
performing on and off Broadway, she wrote and produced an original
musical about the building of the Brooklyn Bridge and fell in love
with historical research. She subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Performance
Studies at N.Y.U. and has gone on to publish a dozen scholarly articles,
180+ reviews and pieces of theatre journalism, and a book, Composing
Ourselves: The Little Theatre Movement and the American Audience.
Dorothy has been book review editor of Theatre Journal and writes
criticism for New York Theatre Wire. She has mentored young critics
and dramaturgs at the American College Theatre Festival and has
directed new feminist plays at both the University of New Mexico
and The College of William and Mary. She is currently working on
a book about domestic labor and dining on the American stage.
