Lewis is founder and producing artistic director for Broad Horizons
Theatre Company in New York City. For Broad Horizons, Lewis has produced
and directed an off-Broadway revival of Cloud 9; a tour of Fool
for Love, which played in Düsseldorf, Germany and in New York
City; an adaptation of Women of Troy; and an extensive reading
series and workshops of new works, including Mary Gage's Evensong,
John Orlock's Shortwave Man, Lowell Manfull's adaptation of Dickens's
Cricket on the Hearth, Mark Wood's A Flaw in the Flue,
and Stuart Warmflash's Shortly After Take-off.
Lewis's professional directing career includes A Christmas Carol
at the Asolo Theatre in Sarasota, Florida; a musical version of Alice
in Wonderland at the Pennsylvania Center Stage; The Magic Flute
at the Mason-Gross School of Art, Rutgers University; and scenes from
La Traviata, La Rondine, and Don Giovanni, for
the Met summer opera program, Tel Aviv.
Lewis's teaching experiences include the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival
and the Summer Theatre Institute of the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival,
where he taught acting. He served as Assistant Professor of Theatre
at DeSales University, where he directed Cole!, a musical revue
of the songs of Cole Porter, and Texas Tech University, where he directed
Angels in America: Perestroika. At these theatre training programs,
Lewis has taught a breadth of courses, including directing, acting,
voice, musical theatre technique, and modern European dramatic literature.
Also, Lewis coaches actors privately.
Lewis holds an M.F.A. in directing from the Pennsylvania State University;
an M.A. in theatre from Northwestern University; and a B.A. in liberal
arts from Davidson College.
